No. 16 UCO Downs No. 17 UCM

EDMOND – The 16th-ranked University of Central Oklahoma soccer team defeated 17th-ranked Central Missouri 2-0 at Wantland Stadium Sunday afternoon in a tough and physical showdown of the two of the best teams in the country. The Bronchos are now 12-0 in the regular season and 4-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with the win.

"That was a big win for this team to know how good they truly are," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "This team is capable of so much and they've shown that. They work together and work so hard. It's a lot of fun to see them walk away winners after a game like that."

Katie Killion continued her assault on 2018. The senior from Broken Arrow, Okla. scored the first goal of the game in just the sixth minute, slipping through the right side beating the goalkeeper one on one. Camrie Hurst got the assist on the play after a great through pass from 18 yards out.

Killion, who scored a hat trick on Friday against Lindenwood, also scored the second goal of the game in the 85th minute from a pass across the middle of the box from Hurst again, placing Killion right in front of the goal for an easy score.

Killion now has 17 goals on the season, which ranks No. 1 in the nation.

Bronchos goalkeeper Kelsi Gibson played the whole 90 minutes Sunday, facing nine shots, four on goal, and recorded her 10th shutout. Gibson, a true freshman from Houston, Texas, is 11-0 on the season in goal and has a 0.10 goals against average, which like Killion, is the best in all of NCAA Division II.

UCO outshot Central Missouri 19-9. The Jennies' nine shots on Sunday equaled what UCO allowed in its previous five games combined. But the Broncho defense didn't tarry in posting their 10th shutout of the season.

The Bronchos are back in action at home on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. against Emporia State. UCO will also host Washburn on Sunday, Oct. 14.
