UCO Tames Grizzlies

KEARNEY, Neb. (Jan. 13) – Miguel Barreras, Colton Looper and Eli Hale all scored bonus-point wins as No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma overpowered Adams State 30-15 here Saturday morning in the Midwest Duals.

Barreras had the lone fall of the match at 174 pounds, Looper strolled to a 16-0 technical fall at 197 and Hale cruised to a 12-0 major decision at 125 for the Bronchos, who take on San Francisco State in their final dual of the day. UCO also got wins from Blake Dauphin, Bryan Dutton and Kyle Factor, while Rio Zamora picked up a forfeit.

Hale stayed perfect (7-0) with the Bronchos in dominating fashion to open the dual. The Oklahoma State transfer had three takedowns, a near-fall and more than five minutes of riding time in a 12-0 shutout to give UCO a lead it never relinquished.

Dauphin used a first-period takedown to earn a 4-2 win at 133 and Zamora's forfeit win at 141 made it 13-0 before the Grizzlies got on the scoreboard with a fall at 149. Dutton answered that with a methodical 6-3 victory at 157.

Adams State earned a 13-6 win at 165 before Barreras made quick work of Zach Wortkoetter in recording his seventh fall of the season. The sophomore had two takedowns and a four-point near-fall in building an 8-1 lead in just 45 seconds before ending it at the 58-second mark.

Joel Dixon lost by default at 184 when he was called for an illegal hold and ASU's Richard Bencomo was unable to continue. That cut UCO's lead to 22-15, but Looper made sure there would be no comeback for the Grizzlies.

The junior strongman used a takedown and two-point near-fall to take a 4-0 lead after the first period and then had a reverse and three near-falls in the second stanza to earn the 16-0 technical fall.

Kyle Factor capped the dual with a 3-1 win at heavyweight, scoring the winning takedown with 30 seconds remaining.
