OKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Central Oklahoma softball team belted six home runs in two games Monday, beating the Washburn Ichabods 11-7 and 10-1 in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

The Bronchos improved to 11-3 on the season after the two wins. UCO played the game in Oklahoma City because the renovations to the Broncho Softball Stadium are being finalized. Central is scheduled to open the stadium on March 15.

JoBi Heath lead the Bronchos Monday. The sophomore outfielder had a career day at the plate going a combined 6 for 7 from with eight RBIs and five runs scored. Heath, who struck out swinging in her first at bat of the day, hit a grand slam in her second at bat and never looked back.

"We had a great day at the plate," UCO head coach Cody White said. "JoBi is a great hitter. Today she was on and that helped us a lot."

UCO also got a leadoff home run from Morgan Heard in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1 and Tori Collet hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach for Washburn.

Peyton Walker took to the pitcher's circle in the first game Monday. Walker wasn't her best, but picked up the win. The junior threw 5 2/3 innings, and struck out one while surrounding five earned runs and improved to 7-1 on the season.

Abbie Lancaster came on to throw one inning and also gave up a run. Jayden Chestnut came in with two outs in the top of the seventh and struck out the final batter to win the game for the Bronchos.

Chestnut's strikeout in the first game was a preview of what was to come.

The sophomore started the second game and came out with a fury. She struck out the first two batters of the game, both went down swinging. Chestnut then gave up a solo home run on what would be one of two hits Washburn managed on the day.

Chestnut struck out the next batter to end the first. She struck out three of four batters in the second inning. She struck out one in the third and three more in the fourth. She didn't let up either, striking out another in the fifth.

The help she got from the Broncho bats made it a quick afternoon too.

UCO got home runs from Heard and Collet again. Both were three-run shots and Heard's made it 10-1 UCO through five innings and ended the game.

Heard went 4 of 7 with two home runs and six runs scored. She had four RBIs and a triple on the day.

Collet went 4 of 6 on the day with six RBIs and two runs scored.

The Bronchos hit the road this weekend for two more MIAA doubleheaders. Central plays at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday, March 10 and at Fort Hays State on Saturday, March 11.
