Bronchos Roll Over UNK

KEARNEY, Neb. (May 6) – Hunter Schellhardt and T.J. Sparr combined for seven hits and seven runs batted in to spark Central Oklahoma to a 13-4 drubbing of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Nebraska-Kearney here Friday night.

The Bronchos jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and racked up 19 hits in coasting to their second straight win in the series.  UCO, now 28-20 overall and 20-17 in the league, goes for the series sweep at 12 p.m. Saturday in the regular season finale.

"We swung the bats well and our pitching was solid tonight," head coach John Martin said.  "We're playing well at the right time of the season and hopefully we can finish off the series on a good note tomorrow."

Schellhardt had three hits and four RBI, Sparr finished 4-for-4 with three RBI and Jake Dyer added four hits for the Bronchos, who also got a strong starting performance on the mound from Brock Stuber.

Stuber gave up just six hits and two runs in going the first seven innings, walking two and striking out five in improving to 3-5.  A trio of relievers closed out the game for UCO.

Dyer, who smacked a lead-off home run in the first inning of Thursday's 6-2 win, got UCO off to another quick start with a double to start the game.  He ended up scoring the first run when Isaac Hellbusch was hit by pitch with the bases loaded and Sparr was plunked soon after to make it 2-0.

Landon Eason added a two-out RBI double in the second and it became a 6-0 advantage in the third on consecutive run-scoring hits by Schellhardt, Chris Lobato and Dyer.

UNK finally got on the scoreboard with a solo homer in the fourth, but the Bronchos pushed their lead to 9-1 in the sixth as Eason had a lead-off homer to left field and Schellhardt an RBI double.

Schellhardt came through again in the eighth with a two-run homer to made it 12-2 and Sparr drove in UCO's final run with a double in the ninth after the Lopers had scored twice in the bottom of the eighth.
