Jesheon Cooper, Marley Anderson lead Bronchos to conference road win

BOLIVAR, Mo. - Jesheon Cooper had 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots, Marley Anderson added 18 points, four assists and two steals, and Central Oklahoma beat Southwest Baptist 73-61 Thursday night in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.

The Bronchos (8-0, 3-0) got off to a sluggish start with turnovers and missed shots. It took 3 1/2 minutes for UCO to get a bucket in the first quarter. The Bronchos ended the first down 20-16, but adjustments were made and UCO found a rhythm in the second quarter.

It only took five minutes of the second quarter for UCO to score 16, they'd finish with 21 in the frame to take a 37-28 lead into halftime.

"Both teams came out a little sluggish tonight," UCO head coach Guy Hardaker said. "Fortunately for us, we didn't let our slow start get out of hand and we were able to recover."

Anderson led the Bronchos with 10 at the half. She continued to provide the spark offensively in the second half, coming up one point short of a career-high. The senior guard has played in more games (94) than any other Broncho and used that experience to help the Bronchos pick up a key road win.

Cooper's 20 points is a career-high. The junior transfer had 19 last week against Northeastern State. Her 14 rebounds is also a high for this season.

Olivia Mason added nine points for the Bronchos. Melinda Murillo, Blake Blessington and Shatoya Bryson each scored seven.

UCO returns home for another quick break from conference play to face Mid-America Christian on Saturday at 1:30 in Hamilton Field House.
