Bronchos fall short against Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND - Central Oklahoma made numerous comebacks in the second half, but couldn't quite get close enough, and the Bronchos fell to Oklahoma Christian 76-63 on Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

UCO led by five late in the first half, but went into the locker room down by one. It worked itself ahead early in the second half, but when OC took the lead with 16:43 to play, the Eagles never relinquished their hold on the Bronchos.

"You have to give credit to Oklahoma Christian," UCO head coach Tom Hankins said. "They shot 60 percent in the second half and it becomes really hard to keep up with that. You have to match that and we couldn't do that today."

Josh Holliday and Corbin Byford led the Bronchos with 14 points. Byford had 11 rebounds as well as he battled in the paint against Oklahoma Christian's All-American center John Moon. Moon finished with 14 on the night.

Jake Hammond played a big role against Moon as well. Along with helping out on the defensive end where he finished with three blocks, Hammond added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Jordan London chipped in eight points, Marquis Johnson scored six, and Demari Edwards added five. Corey Alpough scored four and Xavier Howard scored two to round out the scoring for the Bronchos.

UCO is back in action on New Year's Eve. The Bronchos host Missouri Western State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton Field House.
