Bronchos fall in MIAA Championship

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Central Oklahoma lost 7-0 to Central Missouri in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament Championship on Sunday.

The Bronchos (14-6-1) now wait to see if the NCAA will grant them an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament next week. Central Oklahoma was ranked fifth in the Central Region but could still get in based on its performance in the conference tournament.

The Bronchos beat Central Missouri 2-0 on Oct. 2 in Edmond, the only loss of the season for Central Missouri, who is automatically in the NCAA Tournament with the MIAA conference championship. Fort Hays State is No. 2 in the Central Region. UCO beat Hays 4-2 on Friday in the MIAA semifinals.

Sunday, the Bronchos couldn't get their high-powered offense going against a stout Central Missouri defense. Central Missouri scored the game's opening goal in the first minute of play, and after 20 minutes, was up 2-0. By the 28th minute, it was 4-0.

"When you play a team like Central Missouri, you have to have your best day to beat them," UCO head coach Mike Cook said. "We did that once this year, but it's pretty hard to do it twice."

It was 5-0 by halftime, and 6-0 just two minutes after the intermission. Central Missouri scored its final goal in the 88th minute.

Ally Salls played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bronchos and did make two saves.

UCO outshot Central Missouri 14-12 on the day. The Bronchos put six of those shots on target, but couldn't get any in goal.
