EDMOND - Katie Killion scored her ninth goal of the season and Caitlin Moore added another to help Central Oklahoma beat Emporia State 2-0 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament.
"I'm proud of these girls," UCO head coach Mike Cook said. "We had to put away our chances to win today and they did that. Now we need to move on and get ready for the next round."
Killion scored in the 47th minute when the sophomore took a ball up the middle of the Emporia State defense. She weaved in and out of traffic and created just enough space to get a shot off, and put the ball in the back of the net.
Moore scored from a couple of feet in front of the net on a long pass from Kenzie Sublett. Sublett took a free kick from almost 40 yards out. Moore jumped in the air in front of the back post and headed home her third score of the season.
UCO outshot Emporia State 22-5, and put 13 shots on goal to Emporia State's one, which Central Oklahoma goalkeeper Ally Salls saved.
The win avenges a loss earlier this season to Emporia State. UCO outshot Emporia in that game 16-4, but never scored, falling 2-0. With the win the Bronchos advance in the postseason.
UCO will play Fort Hays State on Friday in Warrensburg, Mo. Fort Hays is the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Central Missouri is the No. 1 seed and will host both semifinal contests on Friday, as well as Sunday's MIAA Championship.
