Bronchos Clip Eagles

EDMOND - Central Oklahoma beat Oklahoma Christian 62-59 on Tuesday night in what amounted to a 3-point shootout at the Eagles' Nest on the campus of Oklahoma Christian University.

The Bronchos (3-0) led by eight points with 1:00 to play in the fourth quarter. Marley Anderson, who was 0-10 on the night, hit a 3-pointer to make it 60-52. The senior guard had missed her first nine 3-point attempts.

Oklahoma Christian wouldn't quit though.

A pair of free throws and a layup made it 60-56, then Addy Clift nailed a corner three to make it 60-59 with 14 second to go. 

UCO brought the ball up the court, but OC was hesitant to foul despite the need to. OC finally did foul with with three seconds to go. The Eagles had to foul again with 2.3 on the clock to force the Bronchos to shoot free throws.

Olivia Mason stepped up and knocked down both shots to make it 62-59 with 1.3 to play. OC inbounded the ball, but couldn't get a shot up as time expired.

Mason led the Bronchos with 17 points on the night. The senior forward added six rebounds, three steals and three assists. 

Blake Blessington, who was named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Player of the Week on Monday, scored 12 points. The sophomore guard scored all of her points from 3-point shots. She added seven rebounds and five assists.

The Bronchos attempted 37 3-pointers on Tuesday, which is one less than last Friday, when the Bronchos set a team record for 3s made in a game with 19. UCO hit 14 against Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday. The Eagles shot 23 from deep, hitting five.

The Bronchos continue a short road trip this week. UCO plays at Cameron on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The Bronchos then have two weeks off before returning to Hamilton Field House on Nov. 30 for their first MIAA game of the season against Northwest Missouri State.
