Bevis Sparks UCO Rout

EDMOND (Oct. 8) – Taylor Bevis delivered a dominating all-around performance to lead No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma to a three-set romp over Southwest Baptist Saturday night at Hamilton Field House.

The sophomore outside hitter hit .417 with 14 kills and just four errors in 24 attacks to go along 12 digs, three blocks, one service ace and one assist as the Bronchos strolled to a 25-14, 25-10, 25-17 sweep.

It was the 17th three-set win of the season for UCO, which moved to 19-1 overall and 6-1 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.  The Bearcats fell to 3-17 and 0-7.

"We came out pretty focused and played a solid match," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose squad won for the 30th time in the last 31 home matches.  "Taylor played really well and we got contributions from a lot of different players."

The Bronchos hit .337 as a team, committing just nine attack errors.

Allison Barr, Lyndsey Becker and Alexis Washington added five kills apiece for UCO, with Barr also contributing three blocks.  Katy Davis handed out 29 assists and Dominique Lipari had a match-high 13 digs.

SBU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening set before a Jordan Spence spike at the net ignited a 5-0 run that put the Bronchos ahead for good.

UCO was down 6-2 in the second set, but ripped off 11 unanswered points – 10 on Davis' serve – to take control.  Barr had two kills and a block during the devastating run that made it 13-6 and the Bronchos coasted in from there.

The Bearcats hung tough throughout most of the third set and were within 18-15 when a Washington kill sparked a 5-0 spurt that put it away.

UCO opens a three-match road-swing Monday with a non-conference contest in Weatherford against Southwestern Oklahoma at 7 p.m.
