No. 10 Bronchos fall on road to No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. - No. 10 Central Oklahoma lost 3-1 to No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney in one of the biggest games in Division II on Saturday in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

The Bronchos took the first set 25-23, but fell 25-22, 25-22, and 25-17 in the next three sets. It is just the second loss of the season for UCO (21-2).

The first set played up to the anticipation of the match between to of the best teams in the country. There were 13 ties and four lead changes. The Bronchos led by three early in the set 9-6, Kearney led midway through 15-13, and Fulani Petties gave the Bronchos a three-point lead late in the set with a kill that made it 22-19.  

Taylor Bevis led the Bronchos with 20 kills on the night, she had two late in the first set to put the Bronchos ahead and on its way to taking the set. Bevis had a season-high 71 attacks on the night and hit .197. Jordan Spence joined Bevis in the attack once again. The sophomore added 13 kills on 30 attacks, hitting .333 on Saturday.

Dominique Lipari had 31 digs, and Katy Davis had 44 assists for the Bronchos.

UCO is back home next week. The Bronchos host Emporia State on Friday at 6 p.m. at Hamilton Field House.
