Bronchos Roll Over Lindenwood

EDMOND (Jan. 30) – Olivia Mason scored the last five points of the third quarter to give Central Oklahoma some breathing room and the Bronchos pulled away in the last 10 minutes for a 79-58 rout of Lindenwood Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

UCO led 37-22 at halftime, but the Lions cut that 15-point deficit to three late in the third period before Mason hit a 3-pointer and two free throws to boost the advantage to eight (53-45) entering the final stanza.

The Bronchos turned it on from there, outscoring LU 26-13 in the fourth period to win going away in a physical contest that saw 46 fouls called.

"It was a tough, hard-fought game and I thought defensively we played pretty well," said head coach Guy Hardaker, whose team had 11 steals and scored 29 points off 24 Lindenwood turnovers.  "We got contributions from a lot of different players and came out with a good win."

Ten players scored for UCO, which won its third straight in improving to 15-6 on the year and 9-6 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

McKenzie Solberg hit 7-of-13 shots and led the Bronchos with 18 points and three steals as one of five players in double figures.

Haley Weathers made three 3-pointers in a 12-point, three-assist, two-steal outing and O. Mason went 6-of-6 from the line in also scoring 12 points.  Bailey Taylor
(11 points) and Julia Mason (10) were also in double digits.

Lindenwood's only lead came at 5-4 early and Weathers answered that with back-to-back 3-pointers in a 13-2 run that put UCO on top 14-7 barely four minutes into the game.

The Bronchos went on to a 21-15 lead after the opening quarter and were up by as many as 16 (36-20) in the second before settling for the 37-22 advantage at the break.

UCO went cold in the third period and the Lions chipped away at the lead, finally getting it to three at 48-45 with 1:12 left.

O. Mason stopped the rally with a 3-pointer from the top of the key at 0:58 and then followed an LU turnover with two foul shots at 0:20 to push the lead back to eight (53-45).

The Bronchos pulled steadily away from there en route to closing out the win.

UCO doesn't play again until hosting intrastate rival Northeastern State next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
