Strong Bench Play Lifts UCO

EDMOND (Jan. 28) – Bailey Taylor scored 14 points to lead a balanced attack and Central Oklahoma used another strong defensive outing to topple Lincoln 77-62 Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

Taylor -- one of four players to finish in double figures for the Bronchos -- also hit a big third-quarter 3-pointer to stem a LU rally and ignite a game-clinching 15-5 run.

UCO scored 33 points off turnovers and made a season-high 15 steals for the second straight game while limiting the Blue Tigers to 36.7-percent shooting from the field.

The Bronchos improved to 14-6 on the season and 8-6 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.  LU fell to 7-13 and 3-11.

"Bailey and the rest of our bench gave us a big lift tonight," said head coach Guy Hardaker, who got 38 points from his reserves.  "We did a good job forcing some turnovers and were able to take advantage of those."

Taylor made three 3-pointers in her 14-point outing while adding three steals and two assists.  Julia Mason chipped in 13 points and five assists, hitting 6-of-10 shots with a trey.

UCO also got 10 points apiece from Megan Womack and Olivia Mason, with Womack adding four steals.  Marley Anderson contributed eight points, a team-high six rebounds and four assists.

The Bronchos led 34-23 at halftime, but LU pulled within six at 46-40 midway through the third quarter.  Bailey stopped the rally with a 3-pointer from the wing and then stole the inbounds pass before feeding Anderson for a layup that made it 51-40.

Another Anderson layup off a Blake Blessington pass had UCO in front 59-45 at the end of the period and J. Mason opened the fourth quarter with a layup to make it a 16-point cushion (61-45).

The lead ballooned to 23 (74-51) on a three-point play by Womack with 4:38 left to paly before the Bronchos coasted in.

UCO trailed 4-0 in the opening minute, but got a 3-pointer from Haley Weathers and a layup from Bailey to take the lead for good.  The Bronchos were up 17-11 after the first 10 minutes and led by as many as 19 in the second period before Lincoln closed to within 11 by intermission.

UCO is back home Saturday to host Lindenwood at 1:30 p.m.
