UCO Falls To No. 11 Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. (Sept. 11) – Central Oklahoma's six-game season-opening winning streak was snapped here Friday night at the Florida Southern Classic by the No. 11-ranked host Moccasins.
 
The Bronchos convincingly won a morning match against Saint Leo (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) behind standout performances by seniors Barbara Jackson and Whitney Gifford before FSC claimed a four-set decision (25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18) in the final match of the night.

UCO plays two more matches Saturday, taking on No. 24 West Texas A&M at 11 a.m. (Oklahoma time) and Merramac at 4 p.m.
 
The Bronchos made just nine errors in hitting .316 against Saint Leo, highlighted by a .452 performance (15 kills and one error in 31 attacks) in the first set. 

Jackson once again led UCO as the All-American outside hitter collected 18 kills, while Gifford had 26 digs.  Taylor Bevis added 12 kills, while Jordan Spence had seven kills and four blocks.
 
UCO dropped the first set to Florida Southern before Allison Barr lad a second-set comeback that tied the match.  The Bronchos took nine of 10 points during the middle of the set, with Barr accounting for five of those points.
 
The Mocs responded by taking the next two sets to claim the win.
 
Barr led the Broncho attack with nine kills and a .316 hit tingpercentage. Spence and Jackson both had eight kills apiece, with Katy Davis led handing out 37 assists and Gifford making 20 digs.
