Bronchos Sweep Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. (March 10) – Kaylee Brunson had five hits to lead the offense and Central Oklahoma got a pair of complete-game pitching performances in sweeping a doubleheader from Rogers State here Tuesday.

Jessi Walker tossed a four-hitter in a 6-1 first-game victory, while Kelsey Berlin scattered seven hits in a 4-0 second-game shutout as the No. 18-ranked Bronchos stretched their winning streak to seven straight.

"Both pitchers threw pretty well and we did just enough offensively," head coach Cody White said.  "We didn't swing the bats like we did over the weekend, but we came up with some key hits and got the job done."

Brunson and Ashleigh Tramel had two hits apiece in the opener that saw UCO finish with just six hits, with Brunson's 3-for-4 performance leading an eight-hit attack in the nightcap.

Tramel gave the Bronchos a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with a lead-off home run – her sixth of the season – and it stayed that way until UCO pushed across five runs on just two hits and four errors.

Brunson had an RBI single and Morgan Heard a sacrifice fly in that game to make it 6-0 before the Hillcats scored their lone run in the bottom of that frame.

Walker improved to 5-1 with her fourth complete-game outing of the season.

Brunson got UCO started quickly in the second game with a lead-off single in the top of the first and Brooke Zukerman gave the Bronchos a 2-0 lead three batters later with a two-run homer to center field.

Bre Davis had a run-scoring fielder's choice in the fourth to make it 3-0 and Heard completed the scoring with a solo homer in the fifth.

Berlin went to 3-2 with her fourth complete game of the season.

UCO returns to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday with a doubleheader at Lindenwood.
