Bronchos Get Past OC

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 17) – Five players scored during a devastating 16-0 second-quarter run that gave Central Oklahoma the lead and the Bronchos went on to topple Oklahoma Christian 63-51 here Tuesday night.

The game was tied 18-18 two minutes into the second period, but it was a 34-18 UCO lead by the 2:45 mark as McKenzie Solberg, Haley Weathers, Sadie Mason, Marley Anderson and Julia Mason all scored.

The unbeaten Bronchos took a 37-26 advantage into intermission and stayed safely in front the rest of the way in improving to 3-0.

"It wasn't a very pretty game and neither team shot the ball well, but we're happy with the win," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We had a lot of balance and that's always good to see."

The teams combined to make just 31-of-112 shots (27.7 percent), with UCO shooting 32.1 percent (18-of-56) while the Eagles shot only 23.2 percent (13-of-56).  Fifty-one fouls were called as the Bronchos shot 25 free throws (making 20) and OC 30.

Ten players scored for UCO, led by Solberg's 12 and S. Mason's 10.  Anderson  finished with eight points, Weathers had seven points and five steals and Megan Womack chipped in nine rebounds and four points.

The Bronchos trailed 8-7 late in the first quarter when freshmen Madison Lee, Bailey Taylor and Blake Blessington combined for a 9-0 run.

Lee started that spurt with a three-point play, Taylor followed with a 3-pointer and Blessington hit a trey to give UCO a 16-8 lead early in the second.

OC came back to tie it at 18, but Solberg hit a short jumper and then followed a turnover with a 3-pointer to put the Bronchos ahead to stay.

Weathers and S. Mason drilled jumpers to push the lead to 27-18 and Anderson drained a trey before S. Mason and J. Mason made two free throws apiece to cap the run that made it 34-18.

UCO doesn't play again until making its home debut Nov. 30 against Mid-America Christian.
