UCO Falls To Jennies

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Oct. 30) -- Mistake-prone Central Oklahoma never got its offense untracked and fell in three sets to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Central Missouri here Friday night.

The No. 12-ranked Bronchos had just 38 kills against 17 errors in 137 attacks for a .153 hitting percentage in dropping a 25-23, 25-23, 25-19 decision to the No. 15 Jennies.

It was the second straight league loss after a school-record 16-match winning streak for UCO, which fell to 22-3 on the season and 10-2 in the leaguge.  Central Missouri improved to 21-4 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

"We didn't play like we're capable of and made a lot of mistakes," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "It was a tough loss, but we've just got to put it behind us and get ready for tomorrow."

The Bronchos move on to St. Joseph, Mo. Saturday to take on Lindenwood at 6 p.m.

Barbara Jackson had 10 kills and 10 digs to lead UCO.  Deborah Ijeoma Njenje added 10 kills and Jordan Spence seven, whle Whitney Gifford had 27 digs.

The Bronchos had a 17-13 lead in the first set after three straight Taylor Bevis kills, but three consecutive attack errors helped UCM rally for the win.

UCO was down 18-10 in the second set before rallying to within 23-22 on a Spence kill and it was 24-23 after a Central Missouri error before the Jennies finally closed out the win.

The Bronchos never led in the third set, though it was tied 18-18 before UCM went on a 7-1 run to end the set and secure the match.
