UCO Falls To RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Feb. 27) –
Northeastern State ended the game with a 9-2 run to hand Central Oklahoma a tough 64-58 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association setback here Wednesday night.
 
The Bronchos grabbed a 56-55 lead with 4:00 remaining on a jumper by Alyssa Fuxa, but UCO missed its next five shots and committed two turnovers as the RiverHawks scored nine unanswered points to take control.
 
Central didn't score again until right before the final buzzer and by then it was too late.
 
The Bronchos fell to 9-15 on the season and 2-15 in the league in their final road game of the season.  NSU ended the regular season 19-7 overall and 14-4 in the MIAA.
 
UCO wraps up the season Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. home game against Missouri Southern.
 
Fuxa hit 5-of-7 shots in a 14-point outing to lead the Bronchos, while Britney Morgan added 12 points and Jill Bryan 11.  UCO shot just 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from 3-point range in the contest.
 
The Bronchos trailed 6-2 early before Fuxa scored five straight points in an 11-0 run that put UCO on top 13-6.  It was an eight-point advantage at 16-8 after a Morgan 3-pointer six minutes into the game and the lead peaked at 10 (24-14) with 7:46 remaining on a Bryan bucket.
 
NSU chipped away at the lead the rest of the half and pulled within two at 29-27 by the break.
 
UCO was still up by four (33-29) in the opening minute of the second half after two Fuxa free throws, but the RiverHawks came back with an 8-0 run to move in front and it was close the rest of the way.
 
NSU led 55-51 with 5:25 left, but a Morgan trey at 5:08 and Fuxa's basket at 4:00 gave the Bronchos their last lead at 56-55 before the RiverHawks finally took the lead for good.
