EDMOND (April 20) –
Rachael Steverson threw a complete-game five-hitter to lead Central Oklahoma to a 2-1 second-game upset and a doubleheader split with No. 14-ranked Emporia State here Wednesday.

The Bronchos managed just one hit in a 14-0 run-rule loss in the opener, but rebounded to back Steverson with a 10-hit attack in the nightcap to earn the split.

UCO, now 24-21 on the year, returns to Lone Star Conference North Division play Thursday with a 3 p.m. single game against Southwestern Oklahoma. The two teams meet for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday in the final regular season games of the season for the Bronchos.

Steverson scattered five hits and walked two while striking out four and giving up a lone run in the third inning. She finished the game strong, striking out the first two batters in the seventh inning before getting a game-ending groundout.

Kacie Edwards and Megan Whitmire had three hits apiece to lead UCO's 10-hit barrage.

The Bronchos broke on top 1-0 in the first inning when Kailee Roe drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on Edwards' single and scored on Whitmire's double.

ECU pulled even with a solo home run in the third and UCO broke that tie in the fifth.

Edwards started that inning with a single to center field and went to second on a Whitmire hit before advancing to third on Brittany Weaver's sacrifice bunt. Brittany Geter came through one out later with a single that scored Edwards with what turned out to be the winning run.
