Tough Schedule Awaits Bronchos

EDMOND (July 26) – An ambitious schedule that includes seven returning national tournament teams will challenge the Central Oklahoma men's basketball team in 2010-11, according to the final schedule that was released Monday.

The Bronchos of ninth-year head coach Terry Evans will take on six teams that advanced to last year's NCAA Division II national tournament and one that made the NAIA playoffs.  Click here for the schedule.

UCO will play four of those teams at Hamilton Field House, starting with the Nov. 16 home opener against a Southern Nazarene team that advanced to last year's NAIA quarterfinals.  The Bronchos also host returning Division II national qualifiers Missouri Western (Nov. 27), Tarleton State (Jan. 6) and Midwestern State (Jan. 8).

UCO will also meet Central Missouri on Nov. 13 in Last Vegas during the High Desert/South Central Challenge and Arkansas Tech on Nov. 19 in Weatherford during the Southwestern Oklahoma Classic in addition to traveling to Incarnate Word on Dec. 2.

And that doesn't include an exhibition game with Oklahoma City, which also qualified for the NAIA national meet last year.

“We definitely have a schedule that will test us from the opening game,” said Evans, who has taken the Bronchos to the national tournament six times and is 163-75 at the helm.  “We meet quality teams throughout the season and we're going to have to be ready to play every time we step on the court.”

UCO has seven players returning from a 22-7 club that won a third straight Lone Star Conference North Division title in making its third straight trip to the Division II playoffs, led by All-American guard Dauntae Williams.

The Bronchos will play 14 home games and 14 on the road, with six of those home contests coming in January.
