EDMOND (Feb. 11) -- Lizzie Brenner flirted with a rare triple-double while setting another school career record and No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma took control early en route to an 86-51 drubbing of East Central Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House.
Brenner scored a game-high 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out eight assists in addition to making four steals and blocking two shots in the rout, setting the all-time mark for made field goals early in the contest. The senior star already owned career records for points, rebounds, steals, blocks, free throws made and attempted and field goals attempted.
It was the ninth straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 19-3 overall in staying atop the Lone Star Conference North Division standings at 9-0. The Lady Tigers fell to 7-16 and 1-8.
UCO never trailed and jumped out to a 12-2 lead four minutes into the contest on its way to a 42-28 halftime advantage. ECU never got any closer in the final 20 minutes as the Bronchos steadily pulled away. for their 14th straight North Division win dating back to last season.
"We came out and were aggressive from the start," UCO coach Guy Hardaker said. "We did a great job on the boards in limiting them to one shot and played good defense. We played really well and got contributions from a lot of players."
The Bronchos outrebounded ECU 50-26, forced 24 turnovers and held the Lady Tigers to 32.1-percent (17-of-53) shooting from the field.
Nine of UCO's 10 players scored at least three points and all five starters were in double figures in the romp. Ashley Beckley, Cristina Yarbrough and Rose Anderson scored 11 points apiece and Mallory Markus had 10, with Beckley also pulling down a career-high 11 rebounds.
The Bronchos needed just 25 seconds to take a lead it would never relinquish when Anderson drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key and she added another trey a minute later as UCO raced to its early 12-2 advantage.
A Brianne Grisham 3-pointer pushed the cushion to 14 (21-7) barely eight minutes into the contest and the first-half lead peaked at 16 (38-22) on Courtney Allen's trey with 3:12 left.
The Bronchos took a 42-28 edge into intermission and opened the second half with consecutive layups by Markus, Beckley and Yarbrough to push the lead to 20 at 48-28 before coasting in.
UCO goes on the road for a big LSC North showdown Saturday, traveling to Durant to take on second-place Southeastern Oklahoma at 6 p.m.
