Bronchos Finish Third

Maria Jimenez
OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 6) -- Four more scores in the 70s led to another low total for Central Oklahoma, but it wasn't enough to lead the Bronchos to the team title in the Cheddar's/UCO Golf Classic that concluded Tuesday.

UCO followed Monday's opening-round 300 with a closing 304 at the par-70 Lincoln Park East Golf Course to finish the two-day, 36-hole event with a 604 total that was good for third place in the 18-team event.

Tarleton State fired a sizzling 294 in the final round to jump over first-day leader St. Edward's and the second-place Bronchos in taking the tournament at 596.  The Hilltoppers finished second at 601 after a final-round 304.  Click here for tournament results.

Maria Jimenez led UCO Tuesday with a 75 in windy, cool conditions, while Cassy Knight and Raelynn Farthing both shot 76, Erica Bensch 77 and Ashley Payne 85.

"We were kind of up-and-down today, but we came in with a pretty good score and I'm happy with our total for the tournament," UCO coach Michael Bond said.  "Hopefully we can carry that momentum to next week.  Hats off to Tarleton for the round they had today, that's a great score."

Jimenez, who ended up tied for 14th in the individual standings, started the final round with two straight bogeys before coming back with nine consecutive pars en route to her 75.

Knight parred the last three holes on the front nine for a 38 and then bogeyed four holes in a five-hole stretch before ending with four straight pars in finished in a tie for eighth.

Farthing made the turn at 39 and then had seven pars in a back-nine 37 for her 76, while Bensch had eight pars, six bogeys, two double bogeys and two birdies in a round of 77 as the teammates tied for 10th.

Two other players competed as individuals for the Bronchos, with Emily Leahey shooting an 80 and Mary Sue Sample an 89.

UCO finishes its fall season at the Cameron Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan.
