Berko Leads Bronchos

STILLWATER, Okla. (Oct. 3) -- Evelyn Berko paced Central Oklahoma to a 12th place finish in the rugged Cowboy Jamboree here Saturday morning.

The Bronchos, who were without injured standout Alina Istrate, finished with 271 points in the 26-team college/junior college portion of the event.

Berko, UCO's lone senior and a three-time All-Lone Star Conference selection, toured the five-kilometer course in 19:47.40 to come in 23rd in the 199-runner field.

The Bronchos also got a 55th-place finish from Angelica Martinez (20:31.70), while Cara Cox (20:49.80) came in 66th and Julia Crocker (20:54.00) 71st.  Rounding out the UCO team were Hannah Pempsell (21:10.80), Angel Vick (21:11.90) and Iasha Keller (22:39.50).

"Evelyn ran a good race and we did okay considering we didn't have Alina and several of the other girls have some nagging injuries," UCO coach #J.D. Martin# said.  "Hopefully we can get everybody healthy this week."

The Bronchos are slated to end the regular season schedule Saturday at the Bison Invitational in Shawnee and then take a week off befor going to the Lone Star Conference Championships Oct. 24 in Canyon, Texas.
