GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Jan. 3) -- Virginia Tech scored six bonus-point wins and overwhelmed Central Oklahoma 34-9 here Saturday afternoon in the third match of the day for the Bronchos in the Lone Star Duals.
The Division I Hokies had two falls and four major decisions in handing the No. 6-ranked Bronchos their first setback of the day after earlier wins over Colorado State-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands.
UCO, now 4-2 on the season, ends the all-day event at 6 p.m. against Division III's No. 11-rated Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Tim Elliott had the only on-mat win for the Bronchos, prevailing in a wild shootout at 133. The senior All-American saw a 4-0 second-period lead turn over Will Livingston into a 9-7 third-period deficit before he got a reverse and near-fall in the final 10 seconds to pull out a 12-9 win.
Cody Rowell earned UCO's other six points with a forfeit win at 174.
Tommy McCarty bumped up from 174 to 184 and lost a narrow 3-2 decision, with VT's Tommy Spellman claiming the win on an escape with three seconds remaining.
