Daniel Nickell became an Assistant Coach for the Bronchos in 2025 and helped make an immediate impact on the program.
In his first season, UCO competed in both the MIAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships earning 11th and 9th, respectively. Nickell assisted the team in achieveing several Top-10 individual placements throughout the season. The team also earned several personal bests in long distance events, exceeding the previous season.
Prior to joining the program, Nickell competed at the University of Oklahoma as a distance runner. He had seven Top-10 finishes over nine competitions, including a second place finish in the mile event.Â
Originally from Lawton, Daniel attended MacArthur high school where he became a four-time state champion. In 2017, he won the OSSAA 5A state title in the 1600 meter event. He won it again in 2019 as well as the 800 and 3200 meter titles. Nickel was also the OSSAA 5A Cross Country Championships runner-up in 2017 and 2018.
