Biography

Reigning 157-pound national champion who will be favored to repeat in 2014 . . . Senior star who has enjoyed a stellar career with the Bronchos and is eager to finish it in style . . . Superb athlete with great quickness and owns an aggressive style that results in plenty of big moves . . . Has started at 157 throughout his career, earning All-America honors as a true freshman before failing to place at the national tournament in 2012 . . . Came back with a vengeance last season in capturing the national crown and enters the 2013-14 campaign with an 18-match winning streak . . . Has a 78-21 record that includes 38 bonus-point wins, including 25 falls.
 
2012-13:  Went 28-3 with eight falls and two major decisions en route to becoming UCO’s 41st national champion . . . Opened the season with runner-up finish in the Oklahoma City Open, defaulting in the finals after suffering an injury that kept him out of action for two weeks . . . Lost 3-2 to Fort Hays State’s Derek Koehn in semifinals of Newman Invitational before rebounding to take third and last loss came on Jan. 17, a 3-1 sudden-victory setback to Nebraska-Kearney’s Chase White during a dual win over the Lopers . . . Avenged the White loss with 12-6 rout in finals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament three weeks later . . . Opened the Super Regional Two Tournament with two falls and an 11-5 decision before pulling out 3-2 finals win over Notre Dame’s Jeffrey Pelton . . . Was ranked No. 1 going into the national tournament and stayed there with a four-match march to the title, opening with a 9-6 win and second-period fall . . . Used a third-period takedown to pull out 3-1 semifinal victory over Upper Iowa’s Bryce Lumzy, then clipped Lake Erie’s Zach Vargo 4-2 in the finals behind a first-period takedown.
 
2011-12:  Put together a 21-10 record with 13 bonus-point wins, including a team-high nine falls . . . Won the amateur bracket of the Loper Open with three falls and 12-2 major decision while finishing runner-up at the Newman Invitational and fourth at the Oklahoma City Open . . . Suffered injury in 5-3 dual loss to eventual national champion T.J. Hepburn of Nebraska-Kearney on Jan. 12 and didn’t return until the Super Regional Two Tournament on Feb. 25 . . . Opened the regional with first-period fall before dropping 7-5 decision in the semifinals, but bounced back with two consolation wins to claim third and earn national tournament berth . . . Opened national meet with first period fall before losing two close matches . . . Seven of his nine falls came in the first period, including three in less than a minute.
 
2010-11:  Enjoyed a fabulous rookie campaign in finishing 29-8 with 15 bonus-point wins, including eight pins . . . Won the Newman Invitational with two first-period falls and an 11-0 major decision and was runner-up in both the Fort Hays State and Missouri Valley opens . . . Runner-up in the Super Regional Two Tournament after losing a 3-2 finals decision and then lost his first-round match at the national tournament . . . Bounced back with three easy wins (17-10, 9-2, 14-5) before losing two straight and placing sixth . . . Was named Super Region Two Freshman of the Year . . . Seven of his eight falls came in the first period and he scored 10-plus points in seven matches.
 
High School:  Four-time Class 5A state champion at El Reno High School in racking up a phenomenal 144-13 record, going 39-1 as a senior to earn All-State honors . . . Placed fourth in the National High School Coaches Association Tournament . . . Also an All-District and All-State pick in football at running back.
 
Personal:  Industrial safety major . . . Enjoys playing video games as his favorite hobby . . . Names “Friday Night Lights” as his top sports movie . . . Older brother (Cody) is a teammate at UCO . . . Birthdate is April 5, 1992.
