Fitzpatrick, Thao Earn MIAA Honors

Central Oklahoma Beat No. 7 Northwest Missouri Saturday Night In Edmond

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma's 19-14 win over No. 7 Northwest Missouri on Saturday in Edmond produced two MIAA Athletes of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Chris Fitzpatrick was named MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week and Bradley Thao MIAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week.

Fitzpatrick led Central Oklahoma's defensive efforts with nine tackles and two sacks, one of which was a strip sack. He made four solo tackles and two assisted stops. Fitzpatrick sacked Northwest's quarterback in the second quarter for a loss of 10 yards and then again in the third quarter for a loss of nine yards. The latter forced a fumble and the Bronchos recovered.

Thao scored 13 of Central's 19 points this week. The freshman kicker from Bixby, who also earned this award in Week Zero, was 1-for-1 on PATs and made four field goals. He connected on a season-long 46-yard field goal in the second quarter and then hit a 22-yard as time expired in the first half. Thao made a 27-yard field goal in the third to give the Bronchos a 16-14 lead, and a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to make it 19-14.

Fitzpatrick is third on the team with 21 tackles this season, including four in the backfield. He leads the Bronchos with three sacks and has two forced fumbles on the year. Thao leads UCO with 35 points this season. He is 11-for-11 on PATs and 8-for-10 on field goal attempts.

Central Oklahoma visits Central Missouri this week, playing the Mules in Warrensburg, Missouri Saturday night at 7 p.m.
