No. 17 Bronchos Top Minnesota State

UCO Claims 4-2 Win on First Day of Washburn Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. – Jenna Jobe's two-run double helped stake Central Oklahoma to a 3-0 third-inning lead and the No. 17-ranked Bronchos went on to trim Minnesota State 4-2 on the first day of the Washburn Invitational.

UCO had its morning game against Wayne State canceled by cold weather before winning the afternoon contest in moving to 12-4 on the season. The Bronchos finish up the two-day event Sunday with games against Montana State- Billings at 10 a.m. and Rockhurst at noon.

Central broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third, scoring three runs on just one hit.

Rylee Anglen opened the inning with a walk, Brooklyn Ryan was hit by pitch with one out and Haley Gallo walked to load the bases. Kennedy Clark drew another free pass to force in the first run before Jobe laced a double to the right-center field gap to plate two more.

The Mavericks scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 3-2. UCO tacking on an insurance run in the seventh on Sherri Mason's clutch two-out RBI double to left-center that scored Hannah Demoff, who drew a one-out walk.

Reliever Carleigh Kinnaird gave up a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh before sealing the win with a strikeout and fly out to seal the win.

Shelby Beard picked up the pitching win, improving to 6-2. She gave up six hits and one run while striking out five in the first 4.1 innings before giving way to Kinnaird.

The rookie came on in the fifth with one out and two runners on and promptly fanned two straight batters to get UCO out of the jam. Kinnaird allowed one hit and one run with four strikeouts in 2.2 innings to earn the save.

Jobe and Mason had two hits apiece to pace UCO's eight-hit attack.
