Lemos Homer Lifts UCO Past Savage Storm

Bronchos Rebound From Loss to Southern Arkansas With Dramatic 10-8 Win Over SOSU

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Rylee Lemos gave Central Oklahoma a sweet Valentine's Day gift Saturday afternoon, smacking a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Bronchos to a dramatic 10-8 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma in the final game of the Cherokee Nation Softball Festival.

No. 7-ranked UCO dropped a 14-6 decision to No. 11 Southern Arkansas in the opener before rebounding with the big come-from-behind win over the Savage Storm.

The Bronchos went 3-2 in the three-day event and are now 11-4 on the season. UCO is back on the road next weekend, traveling to Topeka, Kansas for four games at the Washburn Invitational.

"What a weekend of competition for our squad," head coach Sam Maples said. "I'm so proud of our team's resiliency. We are finding ways to win games in really tough circumstances.

"We've been gaining a lot of experience with our young talent and we're seeing our seasoned players lead, which is exciting. We still have plenty to improve on and we need to stay consistent in practice with our process this coming week."

Central overcame 5-1 and 8-5 deficits in rallying past the Savage Storm, capping the comeback with Lemos' walk-off bomb.

Rylee Anglen got the seventh going with a one-out bunt single and Lemos followed with her game-winner, driving the first pitch she saw over the right field fence for her second homer of the season.

Shelby Beard picked up the pitching win with three innings of one-hit shutout relief. Kennedy Clark went 3-for-3 to lead a 15-hit attack while Anglen, Lemos, Hannah Demoff and Brooklyn Ryan had two hits apiece.

The Bronchos broke on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first on Haley Gallo's two-out homer to left field, but SOSU came back with five runs in the second to surge in front.

UCO tied it in the third with a four-run outburst.

Gallo drew a one-out walk to start things, Clark singled through the left side and Jenna Jobe plated the first run with a single to center. Demoff drove an RBI double to right-center, Brooklyn Lyles had a run-scoring bloop single to left and Bonnie Childs made it 5-5 with an RBI triple down the left field line.

Southeastern scored three times in the top of the fourth to move back in front and the Bronchos answered right back in the bottom of the frame.

Lemos led off the inning with a triple down the left field line, Ryan reached on a bunt single and Clark drove them both in with a one-out double in the gap. Demoff's two-out RBI single up the middle pulled UCO even and it stayed 8-8 until the dramatic finish.

The Bronchos fell behind 6-0 early against Southern Arkansas and never recovered, giving up 16 hits in the contest. Ryan went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and Lemos had two hits in the loss.
