UCO Drops Back-And-Forth Battle At UCM

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma got hands on Central Missouri's 19-yard field goal with seven seconds left in the game but the deflected kick still wobbled through the goal posts to give UCM a 33-31 win over the Bronchos.

Central Oklahoma is 2-3 on the season following the tough loss and now 1-2 in the MIAA. Central Missouri is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.

The Bronchos led for all of the first half, then erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. UCO took a 31-30 lead with 3:25 remaining, but UCM went 84 yards on 15 plays and kicked the game winner with seven seconds left on the clock.

The loss negated a stellar performance by Jett Huff, who threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns. His primary target, Makel Paiva, tied a single game UCO record with 15 receptions. He had 131 yards receiving and scored two of Central's four touchdowns on the night.

Reese Roller led the defensive effort for the Bronchos with 14 tackles. He added one pass breakup and a fumble recovery.

As a team, UCO finished with 352 yards of offense. The Bronchos gave up 553 to UCM, including 450 passing yards by the host Mules.

Central Missouri won the coin toss and took the ball. But on the third play of the game, Cameron Done sacked the UCM quarterback and forced a fumble. Roller jumped on the ball. That setup short field for the Bronchos and UCO took advantage.

Paiva caught his first touchdown pass on a 4-yard reception that finished off the 6-play, 35-yard drive and UCO led 7-0 just under four minutes into the action.

Central Missouri went back down the field and scored but missed the PAT and the Bronchos remained in front, 7-6.

Clayton Creasey finished off the next UCO possession with a 1-yard touchdown run. That capped off a 13-play, 70-yard scoring drive and gave the Bronchos a 14-6 lead.

It was 17-6 after Bradley Thao connected on a 22-yard field goal with 10:17 remaining in the second quarter. The third scoring drive for the Bronchos went 10 plays, 76 yards.

Central Missouri added a late touchdown to get the game to 17-13 at halftime. UCM took its first lead in the third quarter, 20-17, then scored again to go up 27-17. The 21 unanswered points gave the Mules the two-score lead with 13:42 remaining in the game.

Zayden Martinez caught Huff's third touchdown pass. That came with 12:11 remaining. UCO only had to go 39 yards on four plays after a 51-yard kickoff return by Antwan Gilbreath setup good field position.

UCM extended the lead to 30-24 with a 46-yard field at the 4:57 mark in the fourth quarter. Gilbreath followed with a 44-yard kickoff return to set up another big chance for the Bronchos.

Huff hit Ja'Daniel Nettles for a 14-yard gain, Paiva for a 23-yard gain, then Paiva again for an 11-yard touchdown to give the Bronchos the 31-30 lead with 3:25 to play.

Gilbreath rushed the final field goal attempt for UCM from the right side of the line and leaped with two hands in the air. He deflected the kick, but it still found a way through the uprights and gave UCM the 33-31 win.
