UCO Turned Back In Topeka

Bronchos Lose 1-0 At Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma let an early goal through and couldn't find the equalizer in a 1-0 loss at No. 19 Washburn Friday night.

The Bronchos are now 6-5-3 on the season following the setback and are 3-2-3 in the MIAA. UCO concludes a four-game road trip with a Sunday matinee at Newman. Kickoff Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Wichita.

Washburn scored in the 15th minute – its first goal against the Bronchos in three years – and that was the difference on Friday night. Maddie Ortwein played the full 90 in goal for the Bronchos and made five saves in the game. The host Ichabods outshot UCO 19-15 and put a small 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Caleah Carter put two shots on goal for the Bronchos. Greta Likens, Jane Lockhart, and Claire Mullen also got shots on target.

Central Oklahoma will return home next weekend for its final two home matches of the season. The Bronchos host Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney before finishing up the regular season at Northeastern State the following Wednesday.

The MIAA Women's Soccer Championship begins Nov. 1 with the quarterfinals, where the top four teams host 5-8 on campus sites. UCO is in sixth place following Friday's loss, but is just three points out of the No. 4 spot in the league standings.

Following the quarterfinals, the four advancing teams will meet in Wichita, Kansas for the semifinals and the championship match Nov. 6-8.
