UCO Places Nine in Drury Open

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A small contingent of Central Oklahoma wrestlers dominated the field at the Drury Open Saturday.

The Bronchos sent 10 individuals to the all-day event and nine placed in the top four, with seven of those making the finals. UCO went 33-7 on the day and racked up 22 bonus-point wins (10 falls, eight technical falls and five major decisions).

Paul Sharp captured the heavyweight crown, while Dailey Jennings and Easton Taylor were co-champions at 133 and Cole Mayfield and Hayze Ivey shared the 157-pound title. Kasen Miller (149) and Seth Sarasua (184) both had runner-up finishes, with 184 Cameron Johnson finishing third and 197 Jackson Blackburn fourth.

Sharp went 4-0 with one fall, claiming the title with a 4-2 finals win over Drury's Brady Griffin.

Jennings had a pair of technical falls and Taylor two technical falls and a pin as both went 4-0 in making the finals at 133. Ivey had three bonus wins while Mayfield followed a first-round bye with two easy victories in advancing to the title bout there.

Miller rolled into the finals with two major decisions and a fall before dropping a 9-6 sudden-victory decision. Sarasua outscored his first three opponents a combined 44-5 in making the finals, falling 9-7 there.

Johnson went 5-1 with four bonus wins in his third-place showing and Blackburn scored three falls in taking fourth.
