Soccer Season Ends In Regional Semifinal

Central Oklahoma Lost 2-0 At Central Missouri In National Tournament

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma's season ended Sunday evening in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship Central Region Semifinal with the Bronchos falling 2-0 at Central Missouri.

UCO finished the 2024 season with a 12-7-4 record and in the national tournament for the 16th time in school history (since 1998).

It was the first season as head coach for longtime staffer Amel Muhamedagic, who successfully transitioned after a 17-year career as assistant coach to continue leading the Bronchos to a competitive team on the national stage.

"We had a great run, and we had our chances today," Muhamedagic said. "We left it all out there. I'm proud of this team. We started in August weren't sure what to expect this season, but everyone on the team put in so much work over the last four months to get to the national tournament – to the regional semifinal. I'm proud of them and they should be proud of themselves too. We had a really good season."

UCO finished fourth in the MIAA this season before making a run to the league's postseason tournament final and earning another bid to the national tournament. Central Oklahoma drew the No. 4 seed in the Central Region and advanced to the semifinal after a 0-0 draw with Washburn where the Bronchos advanced on penalties.

But Sunday afternoon, it would come to an end.

Central Missouri finished third in the MIAA but drew the No. 1 seed in the Central Region. UCM beat Ouachita Baptist 2-0 to advance to the semifinal, then did the same to the Bronchos to advance to next Sunday's regional championship against Minnesota State.

UCO outshot UCM in the semifinal. After being outshot 9-3 in the first half, the Bronchos came out firing and outshot UCM 11-4 in the second half for a 14-13 advantage in the game. The Bronchos also put eight shots on goal to UCM's seven.

Unfortunately for UCO, none of the shots got past the goalkeeper. Central Missouri scored in the 20th minute, then added another in 48th to get the 2-0 lead.

Central Oklahoma's goalkeeper, Avery Bass, made five saves on the day to keep UCO's hopes alive for its offense.

Freshman forward Caleah Carter took a team-high five shots, putting four on goal. MIAA Offensive Player of the Year Rebekah George took three shots. Madison Linavong and Albany Adair each took two shots, and Stormie Ramsey and Kaitlyn Cotton took one each.
