Eli Kirk Named MIAA Wrestler of the Week

Redshirt Freshman Went 2-0 With Two Falls, Upset of Fourth-Ranked Opponent

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma redshirt freshman Eli Kirk was named MIAA Wrestler of the Week Tuesday following a standout performance on the mat this weekend.

Kirk, from Guthrie, Oklahoma, went 2-0 in back-to-back duals as No. 2 Central Oklahoma beat No. 8 Maryville (42-4) and No. 3 McKendree (19-18) in a pair of non-conference duals.

Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri, Kirk pulled off an upset of fourth-ranked Evan Bider, pinning the nationally ranked opponent midway through the second period.

The redshirt freshman took the lead on a takedown with 1:18 left in the first period and rode Binder the rest of the way. Kirk chose neutral to begin the second stanza, tacked on another takedown to go up 6-0 and then methodically worked Binder over before ending it at 4:00.

Sunday in Lebanon, Illinois, Kirk followed with his second fall in two days. He escaped early in the second period to go ahead 4-1, then took Gunnar LeGrand to his back a minute later and ended the match at the 4:21 mark.

Central Oklahoma is off to a 2-0 start following the weekend. The Bronchos head to Springfield, Missouri this weekend for the Drury Open before hosting Ouachita Baptist Friday, Nov. 22 at Hamilton Field House in the 2024-25 home opener.
