UCO Cruises To Regional Final

EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team advanced to the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Central Regional final Sunday with a 4-0 win over Northwest Missouri Saturday morning at Edmond Center Court.

The Bronchos took two of three doubles matches to get an early 1-0 lead in the match. 

Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Isabella Dunlap, ranked No. 2 in the country in the latest ITA Top 25 Doubles, won 6-1 at the No. 1 position before Northwest took No. 3 doubles, 6-2. 

Mae Canete and Paola Landin though won 6-2 at No. 2 to give UCO the doubles point.

Canete wasted no time adding another point to the scoreboard for the Bronchos. The freshman improved to 18-0 this season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, giving UCO a 2-0 lead in the match.

Dunlap won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Nikki Boyar clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

Central Oklahoma advances to the regional final and will play Washburn Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner of Sunday's final will advance, along with seven other regional winners, to the national finals in Surprise, Arizona May 19-22.
