Nine UCO Wrestlers Earn Academic Recognition

Manheim, Pa. (April 12) – All-Americans Dalton Abney and Paxton Rosen headline a group of nine Central Oklahoma wrestlers who were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II Scholar All-America Team, it was announced Monday.

Student-athletes must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for national tournament qualifiers, to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-America Team.

Joining Abney and Rosen on the list for the Bronchos was Brady DeArmond, Von Gray, Barrett Haemker, Gabe Johnson, Studd Morris, Ryder Ramsey and Garrett Steidley.

Abney finished as the national runner-up at 197 pounds this season, while Rosen placed sixth at 125. Johnson was a national qualifier at 149 for UCO.

Gray, Haemker and Ramsey are all biology majors, while Abney is studying kinesiology, DeArmond business administration, Morris engineering, Rosen mechanical engineering and Steidley history education.
