Bronchos Remain Sixth In National Poll

MANHEIM, Pa. (Feb. 19) – Central Oklahoma stayed at No. 6 in the final regular-season NCAA Division II wrestling rankings that were released Friday by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Coach Todd Steidley's Bronchos earned 56 points in the poll, which was topped by Nebraska-Kearney with 92 points. Lindenwood is second with 78 points, followed by St. Cloud State (73), Gannon (65) and McKendree (64).

UCO has seven individuals ranked in the top 12 at their respective weight, with Heath Gray still the No. 1 pick at 184. Dalton Abney continued to hold down the No. 3 spot at 197 as the only other individual in the top four.

Brik Filippo and 174 Wyatt Jordan are both ranked seventh, while 157 Ty Lucas is ninth, Dayton Garrett 11th.and 133 Thaddeus Long 12th.

It's the final rankings before six super regional tournaments are held on campus sites around the country the weekend of Feb. 27-28 to determine the 132 qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships that are set for March 12-13 in St. Louis, Mo.

UCO will host the Super Region IV Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 28. It's easily the strongest super regional in the country, with seven of the 10 teams ranked in the top 25. Lindenwood, McKendree and UCO all in the top six, while Fort Hays State is No. 15, Drury No. 17, Maryville No. 22 and Newman No. 23.

Central finished 5-0 in its abbreviated dual schedule and hasn't competed since Jan. 23.
