Central Oklahoma Cruises In Rout Of Rogers State

Bronchos Lead Wire-To-Wire In Victory

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team clinched an MIAA Tournament berth with a 77-59 win over Rogers State Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.
 
Central Oklahoma is now 11-6 on the season with the victory, in which the Bronchos never trailed.
 
"We played really well defensively early in the game and that was a good way to get started," UCO head coach Guy Hardaker said. "We played well on offense early too. That good start was key and the team played really well all around."
 
Kelsey Johnson's 20 points and 12 rebounds led the way Thursday night. It is the fifth time this season the senior forward from Washington, Oklahoma posted at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson was 8-for-16 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also had two blocks and one assist.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 45.2 percent as a team Thursday. The Bronchos went 28-for-62 overall, 6-for-22 from 3-point range, and 15-for-21 from the free-throw line.
 
Taylor Dement, making her first career start, Jaci Littell, and Caley Young each made baskets in the first two minutes to give Central Oklahoma a 6-0 lead. Rogers State finally got on the scoreboard after 2:52 of play. The Bronchos followed that with a 12-0 run.
 
Johnson scored six, Taylor Factor added four off the bench, and Kaci Richardson scored two in a span of 3:24 to put Central up 18-2 with 3:24 still to play in the first quarter. Central led 22-10 at the first stop. The Bronchos shot a solid 10-for-15 in the opening quarter. All were two-point field goals. Central added a pair of free-throws in the first half.
 
Central essentially duplicated that performance in the second quarter, handing Rogers State scoring droughts of 3-plus minutes on two separate occasions before building a 32-14 lead midway through the second quarter.
 
Rogers did outscore the Bronchos in the fourth quarter by a 23-18 margin. But the game was all Central Oklahoma start to finish.
 
Clary Donica scored nine points off the bench to go with a career-high 10 rebounds. She was just 2-for-7 from the floor but added one 3-pointer and four free-throws.
 
Avery Allen added eight points off the bench to go with a game-high six assists. Central scored 35 bench points Thursday night. Donica and Allen led that charge. Aliyah Llanusa scored six, Factor did too, and Richardson scored four. Macy McClendon also scored her first career basket in the final minutes.
 
Littell added seven points, six rebounds and five assists Thursday. She was 3-for-8 from the field, 0-for-4 from behind the arc, and 1-for-3 from the free-throw line. Brooke Rayner added six points, Dement scored five, and Young four.
 
Central Oklahoma will wrap up its 2020-21 season of home games Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos play Northeastern State Saturday at 1:30 p.m. before finishing the regular season with four more road games, including a trip this Sunday to Rogers State.
