No. 3 UCO Plasters No. 23 Jets

WICHITA, Kan. (Jan. 17) – Nate Keim scored a third-period technical fall to highlight another dominating Central Oklahoma performance on the mat Sunday morning as the No. 3-ranked Bronchos hammered No. 23 Newman 40-5.

UCO also earned five major decisions, two forfeits and one regular decision in beginning defense of its Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association crown and held a 20-1 takedown advantage in moving to 3-0 on the young season.

The Bronchos have scored 40-plus points in all three duals, the first time Central has done that since midway through the 1986-87 season.

"We did a lot of good things, but I also saw some areas where we really need to clean up," head coach Todd Steidley said. "I think our shape has been pretty good for the most part in these three duals and our guys are just happy to be back on the mat competing."

Keim had three takedowns and three near-falls in a 17-2 technical fall that ended late in the third period at 141 pounds to headline UCO's offensive assault. The Bronchos outscored NU 85-11 in the seven matches they won.

Paxton Rosen (125), Ty Lucas (157), Wyatt Jordan (174), Heath Gray (184) and Braden Morgan (heavyweight) all had major decisions. Dalton Abney (197) picked up a decision, while Thaddeus Long (133) and Gabe Johnson (149) earned forfeits.

Rosen -- a junior transfer making his UCO debut -- cruised to a 16-2 rout in the opening bout behind a four takedown attack and the second-ranked Lucas had two takedowns and a near-fall in a 10-1 rout.

Jordan jumped to an 8-0 first-period lead en route to a 10-0 shutout in picking up his third bonus-point win in as many matches and the top-ranked Gray racked up six takedowns in a 15-4 drubbing for his 32nd straight win.

The third-rated Abney had a pair of takedowns in an easy 6-1 victory and Morgan enabled UCO to reach the 40-point mark with a 10-1 romp in his first match with the Bronchos, scoring two takedowns and a near-fall.

UCO also went 11-1 with 10 bonus-point wins in extra matches that were contested against NU, Emmanuel and Fort Hays State.

Central returns to action Saturday, traveling to Kearney, Neb. for three matches in the Midwest Duals.
