UCO Tames Tigers In Season Opener

EDMOND (Jan. 15) – Thaddeus Long and Ty Lucas notched first-period falls to lead a parade of bonus-point wins that carried Central Oklahoma to a 44-0 shellacking of Ouachita Baptist Friday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The No. 3-ranked Bronchos also scored four technical falls in securing their sixth straight season-opening victory. UCO racked up 22 takedowns and 18 near-falls in the hour-long dual, giving up just six total offensive points in 10 matches.

Long made his career debut at 133 pounds a short one as the redshirt freshman raced to a 12-3 lead before getting the fall at the 2:09 mark, while the second-ranked Lucas turned an early takedown at 157 into a pin at 1:35.

The Bronchos got technical falls from 141 Nate Keim, 174 Wyatt Jordan, 184 Heath Gray and 197 Dalton Abney.

Keim had three takedowns and three near-falls in a 17-0 shutout that ended midway through the third period and Jordan needed 4:10 to secure a 19-0 rout behind four near-falls. The top-ranked Gray continued his dominating career in easy fashion, scoring five takedowns in a 21-3 romp that wrapped up in 3:38 and Abney took just 2:02 to pile up three near-falls and two takedowns in a 16-1 drubbing.

Central also got regular decisions from 125 Garrett Steidley, 149 Gabe Johnson, 165 Anthony DesVigne and heavyweight Christian Arriola. It was the UCO debut for Steidley and Johnson, a pair of true freshman.

The Bronchos outscored OBU 24-0 in five extra matches, getting falls from 149 Dylan Avery and heavyweight Judson Rowland.
