Bronchos Picked First In League Mat Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 15) – Defending champion Central Oklahoma is the preseason pick to win the 2021 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association wrestling title, according to the coaches' poll released Friday by the league office.

The Bronchos received four first-place votes and finished with 16 points in balloting of the conference's five head coaches. Nebraska-Kearney earned the other first-place vote and is second in the poll with 13 points, followed by Fort Hays State (10 points), Newman (seven) and Central Missouri (four).

Four of the five teams are nationally ranked in NCAA Division II. UNK is No. 2, followed by UCO at No. 3, FHSU at No. 10 and NU at No. 23.

The Bronchos of fifth-year head coach Todd Steidley won last year's MIAA crown with a perfect 4-0 record. Central opens conference action Sunday with a 9 a.m. dual against Newman in Wichita, Kan.
