Bronchos Fifth In National Mat Poll

The Central Oklahoma wrestling team has yet to compete in the 2020-21 season, but the Bronchos are ranked No. 5 in the first NCAA Division II poll of the regular season by theopenmat.com.

UCO has nine individuals ranked in the top 16, including three in the top five, and finished with 44.5 points. St. Cloud State is the runaway No. 1 pick with 105 points, followed by Lindenwood (69.5), Nebraska-Kearney (53), West Liberty (50.5) and the Bronchos.

Heath Gray tops Central's individuals as the No. 1 pick at 184 pounds. Last year's Division II Wrestler of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association after the national tournament was cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic, Gray has a two-year record of 65-3 with the Bronchos.

Ty Lucas was ranked fourth at 157 and Dalton Abney fifth at 197. Both earned NWCA All-America honors last season after finishing as regional runners-up in qualifying for the national tournament.

Other ranked individuals for UCO were 125 Tanner Cole (ninth), 149 Brik Filippo (ninth), 174 Tre'Vaughn Craig (ninth), 165 Dayton Garrett (11^th), 141 Nate Keim (13^th) and 285 Gage Johnson (16^th).

The Bronchos are scheduled to open the season Jan. 3 with the Bronze-Blue intrasquad dual at Hamilton Field House.
