UCO Wrestling No. 2 In National Poll

EDMOND – Perennial NCAA Division II wrestling power Central Oklahoma earned the No. 2 ranking in a national preseason poll released by Flowrestling.

The Bronchos have eight individuals ranked in the top 15 at their respective weights and trail St. Cloud State in the team ratings. Rounding out the top five is Nebraska-Kearney, McKendree and Lindenwood.

Heath Gray is the No. 1 pick at 184 pounds to lead UCO's ranked wrestlers, while Ty Lucas is second at 157 and Dalton Abney third at 197. All three were named All-Americans last year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association after the national tournament was cancelled by the coronavirus pandemic.

Other Bronchos in the individual rankings are 125 Tanner Cole (fifth), 149 Brik Filippo (eighth), 165 Dayton Garrett (ninth), 174 Tre'Vaughn Craig (10^th), and 141 Nate Keim (13^th).

Central went 12-2 in duals last season, winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title. The Bronchos finished a close second to McKendree in the Super Regional IV Tournament in qualifying six for the national tournament before that event was cancelled the day before it started.

The 2020-21 season isn't expected to start until January and UCO is still finalizing its schedule. The Bronchos are tentatively set to hold their annual Bronze-Blue dual on Dec. 9.
