UCO Annihilates Aggies

EDMOND (Nov. 23) – High-scoring Central Oklahoma punished Cameron with suffocating defense and a dominating inside game in a 107-58 drubbing Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos turned 20 turnovers into 33 points, blocked eight shots while limiting the Aggies to 28.6-percent (18-of-63) shooting from the field and scored 56 points in the paint in the highest-scoring women's game in HFH history.

UCO shot 58.9 percent (43-of-73) from the field and all 12 players scored, with four in double figures. The Bronchos eclipsed the 100-point mark for just the 14th time in program history, with the 107 points tied for the third-highest total.

The 49-point margin of victory was also the eighth largest in school history.

"Our defense was really good and we made shots," said head coach Guy Hardaker, whose team improved to 4-1. "I thought we came out really ready to play. We were aggressive from the start and had a solid all-around game."

Kelsey Johnson hit 8-of-9 shots with one 3-pointer and both free throw tries in scoring 19 points to lead UCO's balanced attack. She also blocked five shots, tied for 10th on the school's single-game list.

Micayla Haynes had 15 points, while Shatoya Bryson and Brooke Rayner added 10 points apiece. Kaci Richardson chipped in nine points, a game-high 10 rebounds and three blocks.

The Bronchos had assists on 26 of their 43 baskets, with nine players having at least two. Rayner led the way with five assists, while Haynes had four and McKenna Pulley three.

Cameron scored the opening bucket of the game for its only lead of the game, with Central coming back with six straight points – four by Haynes on back-to-back layups – to surge in front to stay.

The lead grew to 14 (24-10) on Rayner's layup with 1:54 left and it was 25-14 at the end of the period.

CU hit a 3-pointer to start the second quarter in pulling within 25-17, but the Bronchos responded with another 6-0 run to regain control. UCO went on to build an insurmountable 30-point lead (55-25) by halftime as Richardson hit a floating 15-footer at the buzzer.

The Aggies never got closer than 28 the rest of the way as Central coasted in with the lopsided win.

The Bronchos close out a four-game homestand Tuesday, hosting Harding at 5:30.
