Bronchos Break Into Wrestling Rankings

FAYETTE, Iowa (Dec. 31) -- Central Oklahoma made its debut in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association rankings Monday, coming in at No. 13 on the strength of three top-eight individuals.

Nebraska-Kearney tops the poll with 95 points, followed by defending national champion St. Cloud State with 91. The Bronchos accumulated 30 points. Click here for the team poll and here for the individual rankings.

All three UCO individuals also appeared in the rankings for the first time, with 184-pounder Heath Gray and 197-pounder Colton Looper both coming in fourth while heavyweight Blake Berryhill is eighth.

Gray is 15-1 on the season with 12 bonus-point wins and has two tournament titles to his credit. The sophomore had a season-opening 15-match winning streak ended with a loss in the finals of the Midwest Classic Dec. 16 in UCO's last competition.

Looper's 12-3 record includes a team-high seven falls. The senior finished fourth in the Midwest Classic, going 6-2 in that two-day tournament and avenging one of his losses in the consolation bracket.

Berryhill is 14-4 on the season with six falls. The sophomore pulled off a couple of big upsets in winning his first five matches at the Midwest Classic before falling in the finals.

The Bronchos, 2-0 in duals, resume the season Friday and Saturday at the 16-team NWCA Division II National Duals in Louisville, Ky.
