UCO Beats Hays In MIAA Semifinals

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team took down Fort Hays State 3-0 Friday night in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association semifinals on Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos now advance to the MIAA Championship against Central Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The first goal of the game was scored by Asha Haile in the 16th minute off a shot six yards out on the right side of the box, assisted by Morgan Cherry. The Bronchos put a lot of pressure on Fort Hays State early, quickly putting four shots on the board before Haile's found the back of the net.

Not long after in the 21st minute Taryn Kedzior scored the second goal for the Bronchos off a header right in front of the goal from a corner kick by Kelsie Eason.

Sophomore, Camille Greer got her second goal of the season in the 66th minute off of a header from a free kick, assisted again by Eason, to put the finishing touches on the 3-0 win for the Bronchos.

Senior goalkeeper, Ally Salls played all 90 minutes, and didn't allow one goal while marking up three saves on the night. Salls didn't even see a Fort Hays shot until the 80th minute. The Tigers would manage just four shots on the night, including a penalty in the 90th minute.

Vianei Sanchez took the penalty after a collision with Salls over a loose ball in the box. Sanchez shot to low and to the right. Salls never hesitated in making a diving save.

The Bronchos outshot Hays 36-4 on the night. UCO put 11 shots on goal.

The Bronchos will face Central Missouri for the second time this season in the championship. These two teams battled it out in the middle of the season with UCO coming out on top 2-0.  UCM is led by senior Jada Scott with 17 goals and 79 shots. Courtney Killian has 12 goals and Makayla Toth has 11. The championship game between the Bronchos and the Jennies will be at 1 p.m. on Tom Thompson Field.
