No. 20 Bronchos topple Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A big fourth quarter spurt led No. 20 Central Oklahoma to a 74-58 win over Lindenwood Saturday afternoon in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.

The Bronchos (13-1, 5-1) led by eight after three quarters of play, but would lead by 20 before eventually getting the conference road win. Every player scored for the Bronchos Saturday, with three hitting double digits.

Jesheon Cooper led UCO with 14 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots. Olivia Mason scored 11 points and had four rebounds and three steals. And Melinda Murillo added 10 points with five assists and two steals.

"That was a good all-around performance today," UCO head coach Guy Hardaker said. "To get everybody to score is always good. And I'm proud of the way we played in the fourth quarter, you have to be able to put teams away like that."

Cooper is up to 40 blocked shots for the season, which is the sixth-most in school history. The junior center is on pace for 80 this season, which would more than shatter the record of 55 blocks held by Lizzie Brenner.

Mason is working her way into the UCO record books as well. The senior forward started the year with the sixth-most rebounds in school history. She is still in sixth-place there, but now is also in sixth-place for most made 3-point field goals in a career.

Mason sank two 3-pointers Saturday, giving her 146 for her career. The school record is 190 by Ami Guffy, but Courtney Berry's 148 made threes are next on the ladder for Mason to climb.

Mason also only needs 11 points to reach No. 20 on the school's all-time scoring list. Mason has 864 career points, just short of the 875 points Lisa Lowden scored at Central.

Madison Lee scored eight points, Ireon Smith and Blake Blessington scored six, Marley Anderson, Shatoya Bryson and Megan Womack each scored five, and Hayley Bryan added four points to round out the scoring for the Bronchos.

Saturday's game for Anderson was the 100th game of her career. She also had five assists, three rebounds, and two steals.

Lindenwood made a run at the end of the third quarter to cut the Bronchos lead to eight points, 49-41. But in the first five minutes of the fourth, UCO caught fire in going on a 17-4 run to extend its lead to 20 points.

Lindenwood wouldn't get any closer than 14 points the rest of the game. Anderson hit a 3-pointer with 2:05 remaining to push the lead back to 20.

UCO is back at home next week for its only home games of the month. The Bronchos host No. 5 Emporia State on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in Hamilton Field House. UCO also hosts Washburn on Saturday, Jan. 14.
