Streaking Bronchos Roll Over Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. (Feb. 5) – Back-to-back falls by Joshua Ailey and Spencer Rutherford powered Central Oklahoma to a 33-14 road rout of Adams State here Friday night in the 2015-16 dual finale.

The Bronchos won five of the eight matches contested and picked up two forfeits in earning their seventh straight win to finish the dual season 12-5.

The Grizzlies led 5-3 after the first two weights before Ailey at 141 pounds and Rutherford at 149 posted consecutive first-period pins to put the Bronchos on top to stay. UCO also got wins from 125 Zac D'Amico, 165 Danny Carrillo and heavyweight Kyle Factor, while 157 Jeromy Davenport and 174 Mason Thompson earned forfeits.

"It was a good way to finish up our dual scheduled and I'm proud of the way our guys have competed the last month," said head coach David James, whose team had 15 of their 17 duals in the last 30 days. "We've made a lot of progress and now it's time to get ready for the most important part of our schedule."

D'Amico squeezed out a 2-1 win in the opening match, but third-ranked Martin Ramirez scored a technical fall at 133 to put ASC on top 5-3.

It didn't take long for Ailey to put the Bronchos back in front. The junior standout jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and needed just 1:25 to record his 11^th fall of the season, including the ninth in the first period.

Rutherford followed with his ninth pin, giving up an early takedown before coming back with a reverse and near-fall in going ahead 6-2 and then ending the match at the 2:18 mark to push UCO's lead to 15-5.

Carrillo used a pair of takedowns to pick up his ninth straight win with a 7-4 triumph at 165 and Factor ended the night with a 6-3 victory, using a takedown and two-point near-fall to overcome a 1-0 second-period deficit.

The Bronchos return to action Feb. 14 at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament in St. Joseph, Mo.
