Bronchos Rally Past Tarleton

DENTON, Texas (April 6) -- Central Oklahoma swept all six singles matches to overcome an early deficit and roll over Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State 7-2 here Wednesday in a neutral-site match.

The No. 33-ranked TexAnns won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead, but the Bronchos stormed back with a dominating performance in singles to win going away.

It was the third straight win and the fifth in six outings for UCO, which improved to 12-8 on the year and 4-2 in the league.

"We played good in doubles and were able to get only one of them, but the girls responded," UCO coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. "They went out and put everything on line to get all six singles matches. It was such a mentally challenging match and I'm so glad that we displayed outstanding commitment and work ethic."

The Bronchos' only doubles win came at No. 3 where Rose Cabato and Anna Kochigina teamed up for an 8-3 win, but it was all UCO after that.

Julia Shviadok and Eli Abramovic pulled out tough three-set singles wins, while Cabato, Kochigina, Lacy Caldwell and Anto Rossini all won in straight sets.

The Bronchos resume conference play Friday at 5 pm against Incarnate Word in Lawton and then return home to host Northwest Missouri at 10 a.m. Saturday.
