UCO Falls To Eagles

Anto Rossini
EDMOND (Feb. 20) – Central Oklahoma suffered its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon on the indoor courts at Oak Tree Country Club, falling to NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma Christian 8-1.

The No. 21-ranked Bronchos got a win at No. 2 doubles from Eli Abramovic and Anto Rossini, but the fifth-rated Eagles won the other two doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead and then swept the six singles bouts.

“Despite the score I think it was the best match we played this season and we had a few close matches,” UCO coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. “Oklahoma Christian has a very solid team and they were simply better today.

“We're not going to let this affect us and it only motivates us to keep working hard and get ready for two home matches this week.”

The Bronchos, now 3-1 on the young season, host Cowley County (Kan.) Community College Friday before opening Lone Star Conference play Sunday against defending league champion Abilene Christian.
